Artist: Camille Pissarro Created: 1897 Dimensions (cm): 53.3 x 64.8 Format: Oil on canvas Location: National Portrait Gallery Boulevard Montmartre at Night shows the busy Parisian boulevard at night after a downpour, as Pissarro saw it from his hotel room at the Hôtel de Russie, where he produced a street series in which this painting is the only one depicting a night view. This painting is not simply a Parisian street, but an impression of the street the artist represented all the elements in abstract vertical shapes and lines, using bold and contrasting colors, a sentiment we carried on to the sock design to create unique parallelism with the motif.
